Comments on the Military and Business Ownership

My military service in the U.S. Army taught me lessons that directly apply to being a business owner and entrepreneur. First, the Army instilled discipline and accountability. In the military, completing the mission and taking responsibility for outcomes are non-negotiable. As a business owner, I apply that same mindset by following through on commitments, maintaining high standards, and ensuring customers receive dependable service. Second, military service taught me leadership under pressure. Whether operating in challenging environments or making decisions with limited information, I learned how to stay calm, assess situations, and take action. In business, these skills help me navigate challenges, solve problems efficiently, and lead with confidence during difficult circumstances. Third, the Army emphasized teamwork and communication. Success depended on working together toward a common goal. As an entrepreneur, I build strong relationships with customers, employees, vendors, and business partners by communicating clearly and fostering trust. Finally, military service developed resilience and adaptability. Plans often change, and success requires the ability to adjust while staying focused on the mission. Entrepreneurship requires the same flexibility, persistence, and determination to overcome obstacles and continue moving forward. The values of integrity, service, discipline, and commitment that I learned in the Army continue to guide me as a business owner.
